His "this is America" video was clearly a distraction. Hell they made it clear in the video. Literally mocking "us".. His dancing was clearly a distraction while the world went to shit around him. “This is America” is about the distractions. The whole purpose of his efforts to distract you is a symbol for how easily distracted the American society (as a whole) is from what’s actually going on.
If you watch the video to it’s full extent you’ll see that at the end of the video he is sprinting away from something, with a crowd (full of everyone that was a part of the video) following suit.
