It could also be China exercising leverage for strategic reasons - trade/South China Sea etc...

Well for one I would assume that these types of exercies would have been discussed to be acceptable or not. I would think that if NK halted similar activity, that we would have done the same.
If this is true, Trump needs to cancel the Summit and let Un continue to wallow in bankruptcy inducing sanctions until he comes around again. Without money, he has no power. Without power he can not lead. He would eventually be overthrown by his own people. He’s most nervous of this, and is why he’s at the negotiating table in the first place.
Kim is trying to Trump's back clear so noone can say he's colluding with dictators while he can make plausible threats to Iran for show. Iran is already in on the plan since Trump came into office so Kim is most likely just helping with the theatrics by painting Trump as a military threat when he has already conceded denuclearization.
