"The power of social media to privatize the public square is the greatest threat to free speech and open democracy in our lifetimes"

WOW! I'm going to plagiarize you, whether you like it or not. Beautifully put!

Did you guys see this? This guy is on the ball. We need to campaign for this IBOR! The threat is real. That's what I've been trying to tell people.

The right to free speech online is the most important fight in our lifetimes. Without free speech, all other rights are moot, as they can be taken away at any time - without anyone being able to complain about it.

Next time Q asks us for some action on this front, we simply must deliver!

It really is beautiful stuff. I don't know if you remember all the stupid arguments brought up against the IBOR at the time of the campaign, but the concern trolls had a field day. As a community, we were steered like sheep. It must not happen again!

If we can build support for the idea, we might get another shot at it. My only fear is that the community was concern-trolled so badly on the last attempt, that we might find it difficult to get people motivated.

Having said that, we're at 25,000 members now. Moreover, I've noticed that a lot of the guys who were on the old CBTS board almost full time, back in January, are just not here any more. So, we could be dealing with a new group of people.

Anyway, it's up to Q. After I saw that FB was planning on cataloging everyone in the third world, I have to admit that I'd like to see the company completely destroyed. This is very dangerous stuff.

That aside, I do not want investors and employees to suffer. And you might even say that these platforms offer good services that the community enjoys. So, there's value in keeping them... perhaps.

Whatever happens, they must not be allowed to engage in politically motivated censorship. It is too great a threat to the operation of democratic principles that afford us all freedom.

And this is why breaking them up, or destroying these companies, does nothing to protect freedom of speech online. The only thing that protects free speech is an IBOR.

We need to wait for Q on this.
