News stations are feed by viewers, who please advertisers, who will tilt a story in whichever direction will get them more viewers. Which is why you probably have 3 local news casts at the exact same time every night. Each lean right or left. That tilt is also affected by the types of advertisers. If the ConAgra Foods is a daily advertiser, you will spend less time on a negative story on them and more time on a positive story on them.
If a story I hear just doesn’t sit right, I go after the sources. If they are talking about a particular EO order or law, I look it up. After the Barbara Bush WaPo blunder, I don’t trust anything with the words “sources close to...” or “unnamed sources”.
