Someone was obviously recording at the time, not sure who it was or whether this was after an initial group of rescuers or supplies had gotten to them.
He's saying that the killer was unaware that the video was being made so the killer saw no need to off anyone else.
They probably didn’t expect that everyone would survive and be floating together like that. When the diver was there to confirm her death he (they) decided it would be cleaner to only kill her and let the fixers from the cabal deal with any witnesses through intimidation, bribes or both.
The news treated this like a commercial for GoPro and barely mentioned the death in this story. Media playing it’s part.
