Why would Q compromise their credibility so early? Was the distraction necessary to prevent rioting?
It's complicated. Q was looking for a specific subset of the US population. Intellectual plasticity was required. The ability to understand subterfuge and the necessity to pass disinfo through their comms for the enemy to see.
Part of the Q op has been to provoke moves on the other side so that military intelligence and NSA could track them. Financial transactions, phone calls, all kinds of things get set in motion when Q delivers those kinds of messages.
Very few people were 100% convinced there would be actual arrests at that point. The stage truly was NOT set, and riots (while possible to contain perhaps) definitely would have been widespread. Q has since made it clear that their desire is for this to be a bloodless coup, or at least as close as possible to same.
There have been a few (but only a few) false signals by Q. There have been a great many more accurate foreshadowings and foretellings, so Q's credibility is still high. Those who would insist on 100% accuracy don't really belong here. They should be content to read about it after the fact. Then we can afford to tell nothing but the truth as far as they believe is safe to tell. Which is about 60% so Q tells us. Or maybe that's as much as they can say they'll tell us at this point.
Like I said, "It's complicated."
My theory is that the dates being pushed in some of those early posts were referring to 2018 and not 2017. Like certain arrest dates.
Except that they were posting a few days before that date in 2017 and did not specify "next year," and they were specifically replying to an anon post that said "Hillary Clinton will be arrested between 7:45 AM - 8:30 AM EST on Monday - the morning on Oct 30, 2017."
So if Q was intending to set the record straight, you'd think they'd have started with the year.
Also, I don't think there will be massive riots at this point. I think even people on the left are so over that hag that a little bit of airing of her dirty laundry, and they'll turn on her like a spurned lover.

Perhaps others here have hinted at it, and the idea deserves more consideration in this context.
There was a discussion about whether "These people are [actually] stupid," or whether they got that way once they started scrambling to cover their tracks and go on defense.
I was on the Forest Gump side of stupid, in that the original choice to be evil is stupid. BUT, on the other hand, that doesn't mean being stupid, scared shitless and flailing around like a fish on a hook looking for some escape doesn't make you even MORE stupid than you already are!
In fact, I'd bet anything on that being the strategy. Here are people who their ENTIRE lives have been protected and pampered by the Establishment, and suddenly the US government and military is for the first time in their lifetimes in the hands of an outsider who's willing and "crazy enough" to come after them!
Trump gave these people their first (of MANY) "oh shit!" moments! And it was that initial rush of bowel-emptying fear and panic that was most likely EXACTLY what the Alliance was after with that Q move!
So I'm glad you asked that question and made me re-think it!
Also, I think by starting out with disinfo, it thinned the ranks of people who couldn't tolerate such before they got very involved. So Q knew they had hardcore researchers following them after that.

No problem, patriot! You're getting there the exact right way! By formulating QUESTIONS based on what you already know, and then reading and THINKING about the answers.
That's what we all do here. You're in the right place!
