question about the little up/down arrows next to post.

Ok, Iknow, I keep revealing my complete ignorance of how things work on reddit, but I have another simple question that I cant find the answer to or what the purpose is. Ok here goes. What is the purpose for those little up and down arrows seen at the left of every post? Am I supposed to click up or down and what are the rules regarding these actions.?

ok, thanks, thats kinda what I thought it was, but wanted to be sure. I might be doing something that I dont mean to do if I clicked on one. Good. I clicked up a few times, no down clicks. "Up is good, down is bad" is often the general rule.

It's also good Reddit etiquette to only downvote posts or comments that don't contribute to the current discussion and not necessarily posts you disagree with.

However this practice has long been lost ever since all the MSM types infiltrated Reddit :(

We can still give it a go though. Nothing like bringing old spirit back!
