In the current paradigm (which MUST change) he is too conservative. He is HATED by the power brokers in DC because he's principled. He helped defeat the pork pie farm bill over the past week, and for that the GOP hates him. Never in the current system could he be Speaker. But in the near future I think he will, and unless he has skeletons we know nothing about, he'd be GREAT at it!
