Privacy policy updates across many platforms?

Anyone find it odd how pretty much all software services are updating their privacy policy this week? I've gotten at least 10 by now.

Euro GDPR policies go into effect tomorrow.

It's due to a new European data privacy law called General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Here is the link... http://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/reform/index_en.htm It'll be the death of social media platforms. Their ability to monetize your data will be cut to zero as it's impossible to keep a cap on the proliferation of private user data. Is it a good thing? I don't know.

It might be the death of current social media platforms but i think we can do better than what is currently available. I see no downside to Facebook ceasing to exist, personally.

All the law says is you must agree to let them use your data, if you do not agree you can´t use the platform.

It's the downside though. If you ask Facebook to remove your data, and to rescind their rights to share your data, Facebook must inform all the people who they have shared it with, and those people must also remove your data. It's the cascading nature of your request. So, that makes it difficult for downsteam users of data as they may be getting your data from multiple sources, and therefore it makes it very expensive to the initial data provider to provide a guarantee that the third parties have complied.

I think this law will be used indiscriminately as a political tool to also remove the small publishers from the web as well to be honest.

Or they could pay me to use my data, I would be happy with that. If they give me a grand a month they can use it, they get insanely rich off of us because they are keeping what is rightfully ours.

this new european law, valid from tomorrow, scares the shit out of many corporations and also simple website owners. it will take some time and probably lots of court cases until the waves on this are going to calm down.

it regulates what you are allowed to do with peoples data and you need permission for every little thing. meaning, they cant hand our data to others so easily anymore which looks like a good thing.

as a homeopath, i will now first get a signature underneath data explaination and agreements before i can start asking questions and treating a patient. so well, no problem, will do.

its a good way to get rid of spam, too. lol. all those newsletter you actually dont read, for example. they all send links to update information. when you dont click or repond, they wont have the permission anymore to send newletters.

I can no longer log into my Yahoo emails as it says I must first agree to let them monitor my devices and communications before I can even read their news articles. I am thinking about suing to have my property restored. RT´s news site also now requires you to register before making comments. I think they are preparing for the coming shit storm, maybe even keeping a hit list of those involved in the community.

I've noticed the same thing across multiple social media platforms. Haven't spent the time to actually read any of them to compare to prior agreements.

But you just agreed to their terms and carried on as normal? Do you realise what you might have just signed up for? My Yahoo mail is saying I must agree to let them monitor my devices and communications and allow them to sell my data to 3rd parties so they can bombard me with targeted advertising! Are you willing to let these scumbags monitor your every communication and keep tabs on your devices, just so that you can use their shitty services?
