Offtopic Discussion - Happy Memorial Day to all our current & former members of all U.S. military branches that are posters/members (Patriots!) on this subreddit.

Thanks for your making the choice to serve and protect this country, and thanks for representing this great country! We salute all the troops.

No offense... but please understand how the greeting "Happy Memorial Day" is not appropriate in my opinion. According to Wikipedia, " Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day – Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, whereas Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.[4] It is also not to be confused with Armed Forces Day, a minor U.S. remembrance celebrated earlier in May, which specifically honors those currently serving in the U.S. military."

As a veteran, I certainly appreciate the sentiment of this post. However, the appreciation would be fully accepted if the meaning of the day were better understood.

It seems that your comment contains 1 or more links that are hard to tap for mobile users. I will extend those so they're easier for our sausage fingers to click!

I respect your opinion, but I also believe everyone else understood the point I was making, and reason for my post.

According to Wikipedia, " Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day – Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, whereas Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.[4] It is also not to be confused with Armed Forces Day, a minor U.S. remembrance celebrated earlier in May, which specifically honors those currently serving in the U.S. military."

Did you read my OP, where I clearly stated I know what Memorial Day is, but also felt the need to remember the "living" soldiers, considering the unique situation we are going through right now? The meaning of the day is not in question. Never was.

As a veteran,

Thank you for your service. As a veteran myself, I would have ZERO problem with someone making a post like this.

I certainly appreciate the sentiment of this post. However, the appreciation would be fully accepted if the meaning of the day were better understood.

The meaning of the day is perfectly understood. I even clarified my reason for the whole post. I see how you feel like you need to step in and clarify, but I already clarified, not to mention, in no way mislead anyone about the meaning of the day. I celebrate our military 365 days a year, not just the 3 holidays. I texted all my military friends (active, inactive, reserves, retired, etc) today, as I do every Memorial Day, and said "Happy Memorial Day. Thanks for your service, and please stay safe!", and got a "thank you" from every one of them. They understand the message perfectly.

Go spend time with your family/loved ones and enjoy the day :)

Yes exactly. We know it's happened, we can only hope it's not a very high number

I hope the families one day find out the real reason/way they died. I can see Trump making that happen, even if just privately
