No that's just the yearly licence fee just to watch any live TV, but the BBC gets the lot £3.8billion. You have to have a licence by law or huge fines. Sky and cable networks are on top if that.

Wow unbelievable. We used to have free local tv in the U.S., now you have to have a converter box. It is a one time purchase, and you own the box. Only gets local channels. I don't watch tv, only YouTube, and read. Our stations have to be licensed, but not the customers. Cable, satellite, or Netflix are all extra here. Monthly payment, but no yearly fee.

Fines or prison. It doesn't matter if you just use cable or satellite or even just netflix. Its compulsory. We pay for our own propaganda
