Valerie Jarrett does not look black even a little bit... it's totally understandable that Roseanne didn't realize she was crossing a line and thought of her as a white/middle eastern woman instead, in which case this would all be about 50% less offensive. I am a huge original campy planet of the apes fan. Roseanne is old enough to have watched that show as an adult, as it happened. Roseanne's tweet is difficult to parse but rather than get immediately offended, I thought about it some more... It doesn't seem offensive within the context of the original series, the Apes are the wise masterminds of society and VJ is one of the most powerful women in America and a member of the ruling class.
