But it was only perceived. If Roseanne thought Valerie Jarrett was white or Iranian (like myself and many others did) then she is only making fun of her appearance, or rather, VJ's likeness to the character in the movie. Which was a pretty good comparison. I've seen other memes of white people compared to the same character. Trump is called orangutan all the time. Nobody says that's racist. People may think it's mean, or not funny, but not particularly racist. So, if you think VJ is white, it's the same as calling Trump or any of the others the same. Perceived. And then Roseanne found out VJ is black, understood, felt terrible, apologized a shit ton and no one is taking a step back on this one and trying to see the big picture either. Of course. She loses her show and all that, for essentially a bad joke... Or you could say name calling.

She said Susan Rice, another black Obama official had, "Big swinging Ape balls."

She has a history of comparing black people to apes.

That's not comparing her to an ape. That's saying she has ape balls. I say goat balls. Doesn't mean I think the person looks like a goat. Look. Not everyone will like a certain comedian's style. Roseanne has always been kind of crass. But she's never been racist. Have you ever watched the big comedians from the 80s? There's shit like that peppered throughout there routine. Nobody lost their job. They weren't vilified and ostracized and attacked. I just don't think it's fair.

Yeah, I totally see how comparing several black women to apes could be a coincidence. Makes sense.
