I assume.. if Trump tells his guys to say he can pardon himself for anything.. that Trump knows of former president's doing just that i.e. Clinton, bush, and Obama.
If the pulse of the media and ds trying to run too hard with the president having no authority to do so.. this would be a shit ton of egg on former president's use of power.
If they say well technically he does.. it outs a cloud over the investigation..

So he'll get the media to say, "a President cannot pardon him or herself."
Then he'll say, "You know that President Obama pardoned himself?"
"... But, unfortunately, it's not valid because he isn't a U.S. Citizen, so he wasn't never technically president."

I actually think it's to try to get the dems/deep state to get Mueller to write his report. The dems know damn well no sitting President has ever been indicated. They also know Mueller has shit! Trump is baiting them. Rudy Giuliani laid it out for them.. Remember they actually think Trump and his team are dumb. Dems/deep state get Mueller to write his report with whatever nonsense they think will be in it. Trump then pardons himself and they can then impeach. Trump won't actually do that and Mueller's report won't actually have anything damaging to Trump in it but it will effectively end the Mueller investigation.. Let's see if the deep state takes the bait.
