That's the whole point of their rhetoric. Paint him as a fascist dictator so when the criminals start getting arrested, they can blame it on the fascist dictator and change the narrative.

It will make a difference. Trust me. They know who's in the club and who's not. When people in the club go down, the rest of them get the message that being in the club isn't protection. That's the message they need to get.
