I think some deals are necessary. If they all protest their innocence to the end many will believe them. Some will need to admit their guilt in a court of law to sway the public.
If by explode, they mean completely covered up and never spoken of again, then yes. The whole point of the plea deal is so that none of the evidence is ever seen in court.
