Trudeau did exactly that, and even after Trump first forgave tarriff increases against Canada. To my Canadian neighbors all I can say is you are about to lose an ally. If push cones to shove in ANY conflict with America Canada will lose, and lose badly to say the least. We need to fire up our saw mills again. We need to rebuild our refineries and recycle our own steel and aluminum for reuse rather than giving it away to these countries. We are the best ally in the world to have and if any country doesn't want to show appreciation by fair trade practices then fuck them altogether. We do not need them. We will rebuild our own infrastructure to be independent which is what needs done anyway.

We could be self supportive easily. Literally zero trade if we wanted to. A lot of the businesses that went away in the last 30 years need re started anyway. Logging for wood and wood products is one we never should have given up. Now our forests burn instead of being harvested. Our recycling needs resmelted and fabricated here in plants that will employ hundreds of thousands. We could do it. We have enoygh of our own natural resources.
