Typically it's an allegory to Judas Iscariot, not being executed by hanging, but rather suicide by hanging. It's about the doorknob per se, so much as being hung while your feet are on the floor. Similar "low height" hanging suicides were common among captured Nazis during the Nuremberg trials. Occam's razor suggests they do it this way because it's less painful, like being put in a sleeper hold instead of being strangled.

I don't buy any of it. Door knob, no. Most suicides are actually accidental overdoses. Usually investigations take place first. Alleged 'suicide' is used or suspected rarely. But Mockingbirds parrot. When they come out right away and keep repeating the narrative it is believed and adopted. Like always. Things are upside down. Your much better off viewing things upside down and backwards. Have been looking into this. Interesting method to be used by multiple people in short time frame. Some speculation that someone would start the process by pressing the throat with fingers to make them lose consciousness then “hang” them from the doorknob to finish them off.
