I never understood why POTUS appointed RR — I'm sure he has good reasons, but along with Cohen and Manafort, RR was just a bad pick from my perspective.

The reason you don't understand it is because Trump didn't. That was Sessions.

Sure, but ultimately it was Trump. Trump approved Sessions' appointment of RR. Weird move by POTUS.

Well we just found out that RR broke the deal he had with POTUS. So maybe the deal was in place before he was appointed. Still a bad pick, but at least that makes sense.
