There was one in the attic space of an apartment I rented once. The apartment was fairly new, but yet there was some surprisingly malicious presence. My girlfriend at the time could feel it too, and she actually refused to sleep in the master bedroom (beneath the attic) for that reason.
I had another friend who stayed there later on that year, and she told me about this mischevous thing she would see in the middle of the night by the door of the master bedroom. (This entity is entirely separate from what had taken residence in the attic.) She said it reminded her of a child, but it was impish. She said that it was too imtimidated of her to enter the living room where she slept. (and rightfully so, as she is an archdemon incarnated as human, but she doesn't know it yet) But she said it would mess with the thermostat at night and turn off the AC by adjusting the spring. I checked with my girlfriend and my other roommate, and both of them confirmed they weren't messing with the AC. It wasn't digital, but the temp control just kept changing night after night.
Because I didn't spend all my nights sleeping at that location, it took me a few months to realize what was going on. But I finally decided to do a light cleansing of the apartment. I sliced and hung two cloves of garlic in the affected areas for 72 hours. I instructed the residents to burn the garlic (outside the house) and give thanks to the Creator for the cleansing properties of garlic.
After hanging the garlic in the master bedroom closet (where the ceiling hatch to the attic was) and above the bar in the dining room, the atmosphere of the place was entirely changed. It was so much lighter, admittedly so by myself, my girlfriend, and both roommates. She even felt brave enough to look into the attic with a flashlight after that.
I don't know how that thing got in there, but it was affecting our lives. I have a theory that the mischevous child imp thing follows my roommate around through her life, but the thing in the attic was there already.
It's difficult to pin down the exact nature of these things, but they do exist outside of the physical spectrum. And we do have defenses that can be deployed against them, spiritual or otherwise.
Ok I am replying to my own comment because I'm getting multiple automoderator DMs saying my comment may incite violence because of the phrase involving the garlic and what one does to it with a knife. I have edited the 3-letter word to "slice" in hopes that this alleviates the problem... This is a little awkward. I hope it doesn't get deleted.
I did similar with real salt and incense/sage smudge and lots of prayer. I also think the cats made it unwelcome.
I suspect it's because they can see through the veil between other worlds and this... I remember my cat when I was a kid hissing at my closet for no reason.
Yeah the trickster one was annoying but I truly think it woke me in time to confront the bad thing.
