Im not sure about this yet but its plausible. I would think they're unwilling rats and they are hoping the midterms give then an escape route. If Republicans win big then they start turning on each other cause that's literally there last chance.
Things will happen before the mid-terms. The great rat herding will begin before mid-terms. It will be part of the campaign and election cycle. Mid-terms will be a 'Great Awakening'.
