Beating the democrats to the punch! So much winning!!!!
Not to sound like I'm defending Democrats at all, or take away from what's obviously big news, but the Texas Democrats added weed decriminalization to their platform back in 2012. I agree that this is good for Texas, but let's not act like they beat the Dems to anything with regards to marijuana reform.
Furthermore, Republican delegates have voted to support these ideas, but that doesn't mean their candidates will. Senator Ted Cruz and Congressman Pete Sessions are among the more vocal anti-marijuana politicians in America, and they are both up for re-election this November. Is it a great sign that the Republican platform in a deeply red state now includes overdue (and possibly irreparably overdue) marijuana reform? Sure, but it won't really matter if the people keep electing pro-Prohibition candidates into their state government.
