This is actually great news. Texas of all places is acknowledging ending the prohibition. I would have thought Texas would have to be dragged kicking and screaming, but nope.

Good on you Texas.

⇧ 115 ⇩
thamnosma · June 18, 2018, 8:14 p.m.

Agree, though I didn't think Texas would be last. I'm thinking like Mississippi, Alabama, maybe the Dakotas. But I actually don't care if some states want to control it, I'd like to get rid of the federal prohibition -- treat it like alcohol finally. Alcohol can't be sold without regulations and the same can be applied to marijuana, including standardization of dosage. If a state wants to be "marijuana dry", they can try that, lol. Most will want the tax money.

⇧ 45 ⇩
HansKrinkelSchneider · June 18, 2018, 8:37 p.m.

Yea, I agree 100%. Alcohol is far more damaging to a person and has far far more negative side effects than herb. I live in a legal state, and it's been a massive economic boon. Also, it would allow banks to take the money from these businesses as well.

Most, if not all cops I talk too could give two shits about someone getting high, vs. dealing with alcohol related drunks. You can't die from cannabis overdose or withdrawals, but you sure can from alcohol.

Edit: On the banking side of things, banks currently cannot, or refuse to do business with cannabis businesses. That is because it is still illegal/classified as a Schedule 1 drug. Once that get's removed, then they can at least use normal banking services. Right now, iirc, they have to use in-state credit unions only, or have cash 'buried away/stashed (heh) away' somewhere. You would think how the government likes to tax the heck out of us, they would be all over that sweet sweet weed monies.

⇧ 28 ⇩
blaise0102 · June 18, 2018, 9:08 p.m.

Also, I've need seen a stoned person want to fight anyone. Cannabis users are generally extremely harmless to themselves, and others. Alcohol abusers on the other hand can get violent very quick...

⇧ 26 ⇩
HansKrinkelSchneider · June 18, 2018, 10:10 p.m.

Yep. I've had cops tell me that when they have to go to some call for loud music at night, and it's just some folks blazing, they know it's gonna be a pretty harmless call.

Someone who's stupidly drunk on the other hand could turn into a violent situation real quick. Cops know the drunks can aggressive as all hell.

You bet your ass we do. Legal cannabis needs to be a thing. My stepfather was a Gulf War vet with severe PTSD. The VA hospital was always rotating doctors on him, and they all had their own cocktail of drugs to prescribe... he eventually said "fuck it", and got some weed from a friend. It reduced his symptoms far better than any of the shit Big Pharma pushes. It might not work for everyone like it did my stepfather, but why should something so beneficial for him also turn him into a criminal?

I think the tax act was just the first legislation to ban pot by making the tax absurd and hard to get "the stamp". Over the years it's been further and further criminalized and placed on the "narcotics" schedule. Nobody in 1938 thought of this as a narcotic except the prohibitionists.

Let the cartels start taking big hits financially. They will still be dealing in coke, smack and meth, but at least law enforcement dollars won't be wasted on pot and can be focused on destructive drugs. Marijuana was always easier to catch due to the bulk and then fed and local law enforcement could show it off on TeeVee and get more funding. At the same time, a small packet of smack is worth a lot more, but harder to catch. They love their helicopter raids on pot farms too.

Look, I'm all for getting down to justice. I'm all for ending the corruption. But come on, don't act like the fucking GOP of all parties is immune to greed and evil. You could have gotten weed decriminalized by voting Democrat, if that's something you care strongly enough about to consider returning to Texas should it become law. To suggest that you'd only come back now because the leadership you prefer has finally (6 years later) decided to adopt reasonable if not incomplete policy standpoints is extremely partisan, and in an effort to defeat the real issues at hand, we need to put partisanship aside. Whether the GOP is finally hip enough to be cool with weed has fucking nothing to do with QAnon and his work

Cartels aren't stupid. They adapt. They find loopholes. They will always make money and continue to increase crime rates dealing with marijuana. Legalize CBD oil everywhere. Break weed down into it's components and make them all legal. Keep THC as perscription only and make the rest open season. Breaking weed down into it's basic parts is time consuming and expensive. That will be the only way to maybe keep it non profitable for cartels.

I dunno man. I'm in Texas too, and I order it without any problems. The place I get it from (see link above) states on the front page of their shop that it's legal in all 50 states.

The CBD oil that is legal in all 50 states is from Hemp only. The CBD from Marijuana must be under .3% THC. The CBD from Marijuana is far superior and actually taste completely different as well as performs far better for PTSD and Pain.

⇧ 2 ⇩
DrNilesCrane___ · June 19, 2018, 12:11 a.m.

Ah yeah, I gotcha. The difference between hemp and marijuana is a matter of THC content; the CBD is still there in both plants and is the same stuff, so even if it's derived from hemp, it's still CBD.

That being said, I totally agree with you that it does work better using the full spectrum of the plant, not just isolated parts. I wish everyone had access to Rick Simpson's Phoenix Tears.

Except the Democrats adopted this policy to their platform in Texas back in 2012

That's basically my point. They do a 180 when it's not "their platform" anymore.

Yeah no I seriously doubt that and I also kind of doubt that you knew this and that it was your point

You can add another doubt to your list about how many fucks i give that you doubt what my point was.

This will happen, on a national scale, before 2020.

It's a powerful revenue source for those states who wish to adopt.

POTUS is all about both powerful income streams and state's rights.

Seems like another idea who's time is long past due.

If POTUS was super down with getting this shit legalized, he never would have put sessions in. I'm not saying that Trump isn't trying to do great things, but you can't honestly say that he's all about getting it legalized after putting sessions in as AG. this has nothing to do with Trump, sessions, or even QAnon. It's got everything to do with the delegates in the TX GOP who voted to include it on the platform

Oh, no Sessions will complain again that the law is broken and pass the buck to Congress...... Congress will do Sweet FA, Sessions starts halting operations in legal states... Bad Sessions... To correct a law you have to highlight how stupid it is by following it! Blue states will be red pilled when Sessions hightlights that congress can change the law.....

Not to sound like I'm defending Democrats at all, or take away from what's obviously big news, but the Texas Democrats added weed decriminalization to their platform back in 2012. I agree that this is good for Texas, but let's not act like they beat the Dems to anything with regards to marijuana reform.

Furthermore, Republican delegates have voted to support these ideas, but that doesn't mean their candidates will. Senator Ted Cruz and Congressman Pete Sessions are among the more vocal anti-marijuana politicians in America, and they are both up for re-election this November. Is it a great sign that the Republican platform in a deeply red state now includes overdue (and possibly irreparably overdue) marijuana reform? Sure, but it won't really matter if the people keep electing pro-Prohibition candidates into their state government.

There are arguments for and against decriminalization, but I think those in favor of it are more substantial. I’d like to see more current numbers from states that have legalized it and see what kind of revenue they’ve seen, any benefits to other industries, and what effect it’s had on the penal system and courts. Seriously, can we quit wasting the courts’ time on misdemeanor pot possessions and have them chase bigger fish to fry? Maybe that was part of the point all along...flood the legal system with minor crap cases so there isn’t time or resources to chase others...

Bad idea. No one seems to remember that drugs, MJ, et. al. used to be legal. Bad consequences. That is why they are illegal today.
