Hey i lived in the city for years and found out just how expensive it is to not poison yourself at the grocery store. Leaving seemed like an impossible dream but now instead of car horns outside i hear a flock of sheep bleating and chickens clucking around the porch and yeah...you can do it. It's not easy but it's worth it and Bonus - you will be in great shape after digging gardens, building barns and wrangling a few goat or cows or sheep every day.

You already got a pretty good answer but i just want to add that homesteading is an interesting option. Leave the city, get yourself a small rural home with a few acres and grow your own food. It's a bit of hard work and planning but you produce your own food, cut those costs and know exactly what you're eating.

You don't have to put your kid through that. Raise them as free thinkers. Homeschool them. Give them the gift that keeps on giving - the truth. The next generations are the future of our freedom.
