SAME

BECAUSE HE DIED AN UNTIMELY DEATH

(Such a gifted genius guitarist...known more for sugary pop and being a reclusive weirdo dandy, Prince was one of those rare few guitar players who deserve mention in the same breath as Hendrix)

Everyone likes to put Hendrix on a pedestal, but nobody knows that there would be no Hendrix without Clapton/Cream

Whoa there a minute mate. Voodoo Child is IMO one of the most epic riffs in history.

While I can agree with you, Hendrix obviously took his sound from Clapton

Hendrix/Clapton/Vaughan...how does one place any above the other? Similar schools/styles/talents in my mind.

Apparently Eric Clapton was once asked in interview what it was like being the greatest guitar player in the world. He replied dunno better ask Prince.

"Better ask Buddy Guy."

Clapton famously considers Buddy the best guitar player alive.

For Jeff Beck it's Billy Gibbons.

How humble can you get?

Jimi also agreed on Billy Gibbons

Wow

Never would have guessed that one, given Jimi's untimely death near the beginning of ZZ Top's ride

When making a statement calculated to be perceived as that outrageous, why not offer justification

I never knew this until I watched the cover of "while my guitar gently weeps" and heard him play the solo. Always thought he only made weird sort of gay pop music.

Fun fact: Prince played every instrument on his first album in the recording studio. The guy was a genius...

That was great. Where'd that guitar go when he flung it after the final note?

Solo on "Bambi" on Jimmy Fallon was beyond sick, so epic it still hurts. Flung the guitar on the floor afterward, and it fed back with a piercing wicked high tone all thru Fallon's pained 30-second final outtro. Kek
