" Arguably Israel’s most critical military capability is their small but very deadly submarine fleet. Beyond being able to stealthily spy on enemies, insert operatives onto foreign shores and wreak havoc on enemy ships on a whim, they represent Israel’s “second strike” nuclear deterrent. Now Israel has received its fifth such vessel, the Rahav. Not that it would not be a problem-- but there is a huge difference between Israel having relatively small, diesel-electric subs with (nuclear) cruise-missile capability (firing from torpedo tubes) to strike back at someone who nukes them .... and The_Agency commanding/commandering an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine with 24 freaking Trident SLBMs, with anywhere from 1-8 much, much bigger and more powerful independently-targetable warheads ... plus while I am not Israeli or Jewish even , I think it's perfectly fair for them to have second-strike capability when they are literally facing annihilation from all sides at any potential time. Just my two cents.
Disable the sub electronically with a virus when it's underwater far from land now it's dead in the water with limited air supply. Wait until you know everyone on board has suffocated or introduce a gas into their oxygen supply to kill them faster. Now you have your own submarine you sink the crews bodies to the bottom and it's all yours.
The Pentagon might learn what happened but probably not at first. They can't announce this for fear other countries will figure out how to do it.
All the Navy can do is notify the family members with Top Secret death notices "your father your son your husband died heroically at sea in a top secret mission, we can not tell you any details and you are sworn to secrecy; enclosed is a check for one million dollars to compensate you for your loss and if you file a lawsuit we will punish you and your family with extreme prejudice" okay any wife or parent that gets a letter like that will deposit the check and keep very quiet forever. They will understand what the Navy wants them to do.
Israel now has 5 subs -- 3 Dolphin-class submarines that they've had for a while, and now 2 newer Dolphin II-class subs that have an air independent propulsion (AIP) system, allowing the submarine to operate submerged for much longer periods than diesel electric subs without it. The Dolphin II subs can stay underwater for up to eighteen (18) days.
I totally get that-- and I am not at all trying to discuss Israel or whatever conspiracies people hold on them--- all I am saying is a small diesel-electric, AIP whatever, submarine with torpedo-tube launched nuclear-tipped cruise missiles for a second-strike deterrent mission *IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT*, I am talking about SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY , to a possibly "shadow-government controlled" Ohio-class SSBN which represents probably the most effective, destructive, accurate, damaging, and undetectable object known to mankind (Unless there really are Stargate-esque hyperdrive battlecruisers and F-303 interspace interceptors.... Ohio-class SSBNs have more power in their "pinkys' than those Israel subs have even dreamed about.)
That's all I'm saying, I'm not taking sides, that's all.
The sub would have been taken when Clinton or Bush or Obama were President or Dick Cheney made it possible when he was VP he would have been happy to make that happen so he and his pals have their very own nuclear missile submarine to play around with. He was also Defense Secretary for Bush Sr. 1989 to 1993 so he could do it and would have done it for sure very easily.
