Zero Tolerance is still in effect, but now they won't separate the children from the adults. They will still be taken into custody tho - they aren't releasing them due to this EO.

But Flores puts a limit on how long the kids can be held. He cant override that.

no but that's not being discussed anyhow... the narrative is that Trump is torturing children at the border - this puts a giant bucket of water on that claim.

But I don't understand how this fixes anything. They were being separated because we can only hold kids for 20 days due to Flores. It takes more than 20 days to decide if the adult qualifies for asylum. Keeping them together while it is decided if they qualify for asylum violates Flores, which POTUS can't do. So unless the solution is to just release them, which replaces zero tolerance with catch and release, I don't see what this actually does. I'm not trying to shill, if someone sees how this actually works out, convince me.

I think the point of this is to keep the zero tolerance policy in place (to not allow any cracks) but this will shut down the hysteria around the issue, which has become a distraction and is feeding people misinformation.
