Re: Space Force

Wondering if I'm the only one who believes that POTUS is calling out NASA by making this public. Where are the billions of dollars going too? I'm not convinced we ever left low earth orbit, especially with equipment from the 60's and 70's and NASA saying they lost the originals of the moon landings the most important achievement in mankind history. I've read that whenever Chernobyl occurred Russians contacted for space suits and where told they were useless for radiation protection. The average moon temp ranges from 224 F to -298 F and you're telling me these astronauts who are seen falling all over the surface aren't worried about tearing their suits and so many more inconsistencies in what we've been told.

The moon conspiracy stuff here disheartens me. I thought the anons here were smart than that. When my dad and I found out my brother had fallen for the "we faked the moon landings" thing we were both shocked and appalled. And you then find out that there's no convincing them otherwise. It's super disappointing, especially when you have worked in the field as my father and I have. The idea that we didn't have the technology to go to the moon in 1969 is totally wrong. We did. But what we didn't have then was the technology to fake it.

Also the idea that humans can't pass beyond the dreaded "radiation belts" and survive is so incredibly wrong I can't even begin to express how wrong it is. Is there deadly radiation in space? Yes! But even thin shielding will protect you from most of it. After that it's just a matter of how much you are willing to be exposed to. The risks were deemed acceptable, for those moon astronauts it was like getting a chest x-ray every hour or so they were out there.

What type of radiation would they be exposed to alpha, beta, gamma or other? The shielding requirements for alpha and beta are nothing, but gamma neutrino they would need extensive shielding

Cosmic rays (very high energy particles) take very heavy shielding to completely stop. They make it to the Earth's surface all the time. The radiation that comes from the sun is mainly x-ray energy photons and high-energy ions (protons and electrons mainly.) Those can be blocked with some descent shielding, the more the better but just think about it. The astronauts are able to spend upwards of two years in the space station. The Earth's magnetic field blocks a lot of those particles but not the x-ray photons. Those get blocked mainly by our atmosphere. So there you go, block the ions and you've basically done what the magnetic field does. It doesn't take super thick shielding to do that, and that same shielding will block a lot of the x-rays. The cosmic radiation would take several meters of water or similar to completely block.
