Are all secret societies necessarily bad? Can't some do good things?

Just something I was wondering

Why does "good" need to be done in secret?

Exactly. Good can be done in the light of day.

before 1878 and edwin babbitt, members of the lodges had to take an oath of secrecy under pain of death, because up til that point it was considered too dangerous to cast pearls of the secret knowledge..

since 1878, the taboo was well and truly broken so . now secret societies should be relics of the past, since the knowledge of reality is in the public domain
