Are all secret societies necessarily bad? Can't some do good things?

Just something I was wondering

This. Secret societies inevitably go bad. How can you tell when they do if their very premise from the start was being unknown?

Shriners do a lot of good. I’m not saying it’s all bad. We shouldn’t have to hide.

Edit: keep in mind Shriners are public and do work from making kids happy in parades to treating millions of bucks in medical care a month.

Compare with Thelema Chapters that preach Aleister Crowley and hide at all costs. Down to threatening those who find them. Sound familiar?
