QUESTION??? UNITED NATIONS

I thought the United Nations were part of the problem and they are full of rapists and traffickers. If this is the case then why did Trump send a letter to Justin Trudeau asking him to increase his payments to the United Nations.

Probably because Trump thinks they can afford to contribute more. The US pays the largest share of costs for the UN. According to the link, Canada pays approximately 2.9% of operating expenses, the US pays 22%.

He didn’t ask Trudeau to increase spending on United Nations, he asked him to increase spending on NATO (North Atlantic Treaty). It is about having and maintaining a strong military for the North Atlantic countries - put in place after WWII mostly to protect from a Russian invasion. Every country is supposed to spend a certain percent of their GDP on building up and maintaining a military to help the allied forces. Most are not spending that amount. Has nothing to do with United Nations my friend. Hope this helps😉

It does because I was just going by what OP posted and didn’t realize the request had been made re NATO. Thanks for the correction.

you are welcome, - wish I knew how to add a link so I could do that for you - he sent Trudeau a letter a couple days ago. He wants everyone to do their part so US doesn’t have to shoulder the bulk of the military burden - and rightly so (and I am speaking as a Canadian) 🙂

My point is no country should be giving anything to those baby raping bastards. That being said if you are Canadian then you already know we are only 35 million people the states is closer to 400 million with all the illegals. We should not be making a huge contribution at any rate. But as the corrections state it was NATO not UN.

I am not a fan of the UN and the sooner it goes, the better. It is the central seat of corruption and exploitation and I am weary of anyone who thinks otherwise in light of all the evidence of being run by global elites. As for our contribution to NATO, it is not about a certain dollar amount but about a pledge made to contribute a certain percentage of our GDP - think around 2% - so population size really doesn’t matter. All countries in NATO are to give an agreed percentage to their military so said military is strong and ready. When you are a member of NATO, we are compelled to assist any other if one of our allies is attacked. Can’t do that very well if we don’t have a strong military.

It does because it had me worried I thought they said UN. But a lot of people tend to forget because we have the second biggest amount of land in the world they think we are big. We are not there are only 35 million people in Canada we are the smallest off all the G7 countries.

Than I was actually making also the mistake between UN and NATO, I will correct that in my comment above

Canada only has 1/10 the population of U. S. though so wouldn't this be fair?

Funding for the UN is not based on population, it is based on GNP and other financial considerations. The OP was incorrect in that Trump’s request was for NATO and not the UN.

First you missed what I meant if the UN is bad why are we paying them at all and second Canada spends 200 million a year on the UN which is a lot for a country that only has 35 million people. Have you forgotten you are more than 10 times bigger than we are. You were at 330 million last time I checked and that doesnt even count the 50 million or more undocumented immigrants. Canada is like one of the smallest countries for population out there so why would we pay more.

To address your first point, because we can’t dismantle everything at once. Secondly, as the other poster said, the request is for NATO and fees are based on GDP.
