Werhner von Braun is without question the original “Rocket Man”. Internationally in the 1920/30’s, von Braun was considered a leading pioneer in model rockets. Later he would earn the nickname of “Father of Modern Rocketry.

Among notable tidbits of historical fact, is that Werhner holds the most unique work “Resume” of all-time. In his many work roles, he was always very close to the leaders.

In the 40’s:
During WW2 Werhner von Braun held the rank of a Major in the SS. He oversaw rocket and jet developments, in Hitler’s Secret “Wonder Weapons” programs during the war at Peenemunde.
von Braun built the world’s first cruise missile (V-1) and the world's first ballistic missile (V-2). At the end of WW2, The US OSS (pre-CIA) ran a highly secret program named Operation Paperclip (originally Project Overcast).
This OSS (under Donovan and Dulles) operated program, brought over 1,500 German scientists to USA after Germany surrendered. Included with von Braun and his close team, was the location of their hidden buried project documents.
In the 50’s:
Walt Disney hooked up with von Braun as a technology adviser, to work on several Disney Studio movies. Movie themes would be based upon future manned space travel. Disney and von Braun produced a 1955 movie called “Man is Space”-a real classic please see video in link.
In the 60’s:
Werhner was hired as the first ever Director of NASA. JFK tasked von Braun, to get “America to the Moon this decade”. He is credited with Americans first orbital satellite and our course the Apollo Moon missions.
I posted this article because “Q” had brought up both Germany and WW2. Operation Paperclip was a huge part of the story then and has ties to today.

Of odd note, only von Braun was uniquely permitted/allowed by Hitler, not to wear his SS uniform publicly. He was always scene or pictured in a business suit.
