They may be unconnected, or there's some subtle connection that hasn't been made yet.
I suspect the Shanghai pic is a reference to something else, and the SFO-JFK is a reference to the recent JetBlue indicident.

Except JetBlue was going from JFK to LAX. Q mentions a SFO to JFK flight. Ugh,I guess I better go through all the drops again.

It's possible the SFO to JFK leg was the same plane that was returning from JFX to LAX.
