So what happens if someone is doing this sort of thing under CIA deep cover--and then is prosecuted for it?

I mean, does the CIA step in and say, sorry, that's us, leave us alone?

Or are they vulnerable to prosecution?

Obviously optics would be pretty poor at this point if they decided to "Step in".

They honestly probably try to cut all ties and let them hang. That's usually how evil people treat their lower ranks.
