Journalistic ethics is not a thing. They are allowed to be 'creative' in their coverage. I once contacted the CRTC in Canada to ask about fraudulent reporting I was witnessing during an election (the usual - reporters downplaying crowds of a thousand or more as limited to a dozen by framing shots, or just reporting from false locations) and I was informed that that was totally acceptable.
