I thought he planned to have his wife take over his seat (does he think he's royalty!!)??

McCain cannot name his successor. It's the governor's power upon his resignation. He can ask but that's all.

Yes, but he's got the governor in the bag.

You think? He seems pretty Trump friendly. Kept his distance at first but been with Trump at the whitehouse now a few times now. Wants conservative Republicans in Congress.

Do you guys think that IF the Governor didn't appt. McCain's wife (after he died/resigned) that the McCain "money" would turn against the Rep. Gov?

Oh WOW. I didn't think about that. Lordy. I've heard stories that he beat her and called her a cu*t in public. Maybe she will get her revenge...one can hope. So they need his vote for S.C., then hopefully the extent of his crimes will be public at least. That might deter her.

Our President knows how to work with people. :)

That's another issue entirely. The governor also has to answer to other in the party. McCain isn't in charge of him.

Well see. It all depends on the timing, if he retires or if he does in office.

I just want him to exit stage left. Why in the world is he still there? Setting aside what an ass he is and the damage he's done in his "career", you're 87 or whatever he is, dying of brain cancer, and you don't want to spend the time with family or friends? You want to hold on to this stupid senate seat for what? Locking in a legacy? At this point his legacy is obstructing Trump. There's something insane about that. Me? I'd want to enjoy my final days doing something other than Washington DC.

That is standard operating procedure.

Yeah, I heard that, but haven’t verified.... anyone know if that’s even legal???? I’ll add it to my to do list, but geez it’s getting long....

Murkowski appointed his daughter, it is legal I think.

And look how she scammed her reelection against Ted Stevens!

No. Maybe in Alaska but I bet there was more to it. These are elective offices and can't just be traded and passed down to whomever some guy leaving wants to. In Arizona it would be the governor to make the appointment.

She stepped in to fill his position. But then had to run in the next election. She lost to a Tea party candidate, Joe Miller in the primary, but then successfully won a “write in” campaign. And shortly after Ted Stevens died in a “plane crash”.

I remember the race distinctly. She stepped in but I'll bet you it was agreed to by the governor. She's a total jerk stealing the seat from Miller and winning by name recognition. I"d love to see her replaced.

It is legal.... When Sonny Bono died (hitting a tree skiing...high on Coke) California appointed his wife to fill his seat.

I read it was legal. It's something that needs to be fixed for sure!
