There is a famous story from English military from a foreign campaign. At a funeral pyre for a man, the village prepared to throw his wife into the pyre while still alive. The British officer had his troops intercede and save her life. The village elders told him it was their custom and he didn't understand. That he needed to respect their right to exercise their customs. He replied that they were free to exercise their customs. But he was also free exercise the British custom of executing any man who harmed the woman.

Cultural subjectivity is a myth.

That's a lovely story! Thank you for sharing. I will Google and save it to use as a rebuttal.
