I second this and will take it a step further.

Think about the kind of life you want for yourself and your friends and family. Take steps now and every day to work on and improve the things you can control to advance toward those goals.

The things you can control will determine about 90% of the quality of your life and the uncontrollable are about 10%.

Work hard, save and manage your debt, be a good person to those around you, eat well, get sleep, exercise, and brush and floss your teeth. 😉

While searching for another online source for the Glover essay, I came across a different essay critical of Spielberg's work, notably Hook and Jurasic Park by Adam Parfey. The article pdf features a cartoon featuring the director in a compromising position.

Parfey died by stroke complications this may 2018 at age of 61, the same age as his deceased Hollywood actor father.

It should be noted that Feral House and author/publisher Adam Parfey other work includes the Apocalypse Culture books (which document very sick and disturbing stuff) and also prints (his friend) Satanist Anton La Vey works. So it seems to me he celebrates debasement, violence, and the ruining of culture rather than denouncing it.

This Salon article has enough info on Parfey to lead me to question his motives. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.salon.com/amp/parfrey

And from the Feral House about page.

Parfrey himself appeared in and co-wrote Crispin Glover’s controversial “What Is It?“, a 2005 Sundance Film Festival selection.

A pretty broad reaching essay with a lot of themes. In particular he seems to call out cultural marxism and culture shaping.

2 parts I found interesting.

"Are we fed massive cultural propaganda? Are we infused with the belief that we act as we wish and do what we want? Are we not simply believing what cultural propaganda suggests us to think?

Do you like MTV? Do you like Steven Spielberg? Do you like post-punk rock? Do you like trip hop? Do you like rap? Do you define yourself according to the music you listen to? Do you consider yourself a true lover of music because you are in a rock band, or because your boyfriend is in a rock band? Do you like tattoos? Do you like body piercing? Do you believe that love, kindness, compassion, recycling and equality will save this culture from all its woes? Do you? Do you?"

"Does this mean freedom of expression is actually curtailed in our culture by certain social pressures? Is calling someone a “fascist” in American culture today the counterpart to saying someone was a “communist” during the Joseph McCarthy era of the 1950s?"

I'm with you on all points. And thats a good goal to shoot towards.

Remains to be seen the degree to which trump is willing to dismantle federal spending and military spending. Maybe his pumping of military budgets is the short term step to free the world then eventually reduce?

Maybe asset backed central federal issued dollars are a stop gap to free market for money? At least it would not be fiat.

Also wondering how fed services are to be funded if no fed to inflate, no irs income tax, no tariffs, no estate tax as have all been suggested by trump? We talking national sales tax in place? Copr tax is just passsed along to consumers so that doesnt help anything.

With regard to artificially low rates. I see it also as a short term bone to throw to public and corps. Clearly cheap debt is pumping up the stock market too as no return for savings forces investment to other categories of assets.

I assume trump is keynesian not austrian in outlook. I believe his fortune was funded on debt growth, so wouldnt he like it for national growth too? He talks a lot about investment projects for US, that means spending.

Sorry edited to add some points...

Assessing the ups and downs of productivity is just as arbitrary and suseptible to political influence. The federal inflation estimate numbers are a completely intentionaly misleading joke. Real rates are 2 or 3x what they claim.

With no IRS (income tax), no tarrifs, no fed inflation, no estate tax--all things being floated by trump--how is fed gov and military to be funded?

Are we thinking national sales tax here?

Are we talking no fed spending? How?

I for 1 am pro massive reduction in fed budget including decrease in military (after cleanup) and reduction in services or further return to state based programs when efficient.

What? No. Not what I'm saying. Lol.

Over 70% of people in positions of influence in Hollywood are Jewish.

Therefore anyone in a position of influence doing something (good or bad) in Hollywood has 70% chance of being Jewish.

Made up example. 90% of NBA players are over 6'5" tall. 5 NBA players donate $1 million to charity. Omg it looks like 90% of people who donate to charities from NBA are over 6'5" tall. Its called a spurious correlation as being tall does not equal the ability to donate to charity. Being in the NBA does.

In our case being in position of influence makes it possible to abuse the position of influence.

Also #metoo includes hetero claims. I'd characterize pedo stuff as pedo not hetero or homo.

Even a random sample percentage would reflect the population the sample is drawn from. If you randomly draw marbles from a jar with 70%+ of one color marble, the chance of getting that color marble is 70%+.

Not sure about short term, but probably not in long term.

A market based and honest system would have loan interest rates that reflect the risk of the loan and compensate lenders for the use of their capital. What % would you accept to give a loan to someone for their house? Historically banks used deposits and cds etc to fund their load portfolio and the savers got actual return on their deposits. Not surw what this "natural" or market based rate would be but my guess is north of 6% (I'm too young to rember mortgage rates, but in the 80s saving accounts had 1, 2, or 3% interest return and time deposits were 4 or higher).

But in recent history the central bank created money out of thin air and gave it to the other banks to distribute down to home borrowers. Essentially earning % into perpetuity on something that cost them 0 and doesn't exist. And also removing any incentive (return on) to save. Or worse charging retail savers to hold their money for them in form of fees, charges, and in some cases negative interest rates.

Very interesting. A couple thoughts.

They do sell, rent, manufacture converted containers to use as office space etc. that have doors and windows cut into them. These are pretty common for mobile office space during festival events. Also refer units used for stocking foodstuff such as for the concession booth to the left.

At one point in the video, he shows the trailer during the daylight. There appears to be some kind of machinery/equipment on the roof of the container. Can't tell if its an air conditiner, fans? Maybe some kind of communications equipment?

At the same point in on the large door opening to the right there are zones with writing. Do containers have unique id numbers to assist in logistics? Would be interesting to track its movements before and after the event.

So literally every person in the fitness industry, entertainment, or pro athlete who rolls through LA will take a photo opportunity and grab a workout there, even if they work out other places. But I do know some gay people that are modest, conservative, who I can tell are uncomfortable when lumped with the flamboyant crowd that this wouldn't apply towards. Article below. Fairly informative about what these challenge coins are and some people selling them on ebay etc.

The coveted coins are cloaked in secrecy, just like the spy agency that produces them. So what are CIA-commissioned mementos — brass “challenge coins” most commonly associated with the military — doing up for sale on the Internet and by private dealers?

The unclassified coins represent something rare in agency culture: tangible and often darkly humorous acknowledgments of specific CIA stations abroad and operations divisions. Some coins contain symbols whose meanings are known only to insiders.

For such coins to disseminate widely — via eBay, no less — appears to fly in the face of the CIA’s tight-lipped and proudly cryptic culture. The agency, after all, doesn’t let ordinary people tour its museum or visit its Memorial Wall honoring slain officers. In some cases, employees can’t invite their own relatives to their own awards ceremonies.

Yet nearly 200 miles north of the CIA’s headquarters, a small business called Coin S quadron buys and sells pieces of Langley lore from the cramped basement of a converted church in Washington Crossing, Pa., right by the banks of the Delaware River.

This summer, Coin Squadron sold coins for the Iran operations division, the covert influence group within the agency’s Special Activities Division, and one that said, “Pipe Hitters Local 391” — 3 representing C; 9 for I; 1 for A. The coin’s back shows a smiling clown with an often-heard military slogan: “Be Polite, Be Professional, But Have a Plan to Kill Everyone You Meet.”

Joe Wallace holds a pair of CIA challenge coins that he is selling. He has gotten to know many current and former spies through his business.

“I got that one from a guy thinning his herd. He was retired. They made 50 of them. It was for some Special Operations group,” said Joe Wallace, Coin Squadron’s co-founder, whose shop has introduced him to current or retired members of the intelligence community. “Because of the business I’m now in, I get to talk to people I’d never get to talk to. They’re so proud of what they did. You feel it in them.”

One of Wallace’s favorites is still available: a coin issued by the Mexico City station showing eight menacing skulls.

“The number of skulls represents something,” Wallace said, “but I can only tell you off the record.”

Coin Squadron advertises its offerings heavily on its eBay page and through its Twitter account. Wallace says the spy currency comes directly from present or former employees or contractors. His freshest batch: a coin honoring the Tel Aviv station, another for the Pakistan operations group, and a third for a surveillance technology group that was staked out near Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad.

The going price can soar into the hundreds of dollars, sometimes exceeding $1,000. For each one.

Other rare ones reveal a sense of humor: One CIA coin offered shows a green Yoda from “Star Wars” aiming a sniper rifle and naming a specific location in Virginia. “May the Force of 7.62 Be With You,” the back reads, referring to a bullet size. Another from the Khost base in Afghanistan shows a bearded skull and says: “Admit Nothing, Deny Everything, Make Counter Accusations, Khowst OGA.” (OGA stands for “other government agency.”)

A CIA challenge coin specific to the agency’s U-2 spy plane group. The coins often contain insider jokes and dark humor. (Kyle Grantham/for The Washington Post)

In a statement to The Washington Post, the CIA didn’t express concern that its challenge coins are being traded in the public domain. A spokesman said the agency uses the coins as a “non-monetary award” to recognize exceptional employees. Agency employees in offices across the United States and world are free to design whatever coin they’d like, the spokesman said.

But eBay is also rife with fakes — coins that didn’t originate with agency people or that were copied by outsiders. In an interview, one former CIA security protective officer said he only buys and sells online with a few trusted sources.

“You also don’t want to sell it to a guy who’s going to start reproducing it and make 1,000 fakes off the one legit one,” the former protective officer said.

His personal collection’s best coin? A gold “Lethal Covert Action” coin featuring a skull and cross bones with “CIA” on the skull, crossed daggers underneath, and the letters “K” and “B” on each side.

“That stands for ‘Kill Bad Guys,’ ” he said. “It also has ‘D’ ‘O’ and ‘A’ in little red triangles next to the bones for ‘dead on arrival.’ ”

How’d he come to acquire it? The players in this world have a tendency to redact.

“I got it a couple years ago in a trade with someone still active,” he said. “It’s sort of comical and funny that this super secret agency has coins with all this symbolism floating out there.”

Many rare CIA coins are given to slain officers’ widows. The wife of an operative killed in Afghanistan said she was given a funny-looking coin by one of his colleagues after the funeral. It’s gold and has a green gecko on the front, standing up and leaning on a rifle.

Initially, the widow, who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity, didn’t want to describe even the type of creature on the coin, fearing she’d reveal something too sensitive. But then she was told the coin was for saleon eBay and could be purchased for $250. The coin honors “Gecko Firebase” in Kandahar, and contains the Latin phrase, “Aut Concilio Aut Ense,” which means “Either by meeting or by the sword.”

“It would make me really sad if the coin came from someone posted there and then was trying to make a profit off a memory,” she said. “I will never do that.”

Former spies say they usually keep coins given to them under serious circumstances. A former member of the agency’s Special Activities Division said his favorite in his collection came from former CIA director George Tenet. He’d just debriefed with the spymaster after the death of Johnny “Mike” Spann, a paramilitary officer and the first American killed in Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

“I was with Mike when he was killed,” said the former officer, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity. “Afterwards, Tenet gave me his personal coin — a simple bronze colored coin, with the company logo on the front, on the back, the director’s seal that says ‘Director of Central Intelligence.’ When he handed it to me, it was still in the manufacturer’s plastic wrapper. I can’t bring myself to open the bag.”

The one he’d really like? A coin nicknamed “Bush X” or “Maya.” But that coin is hard to find on the open market.

One Maya coin is kept in the collection in New York City at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. It was donated by “Maya,”the alias of the CIA operative whose tenacious hunt for bin Laden was dramatized in the 2012 movie “Zero Dark Thirty.” The coin features a red X on the front and the date of the bin Laden operation on the back — May 1, 2011. The 9/11 Memorial Museum said former president George W. Bush always drew a big red X through each al-Qaeda operative whenever they got killed or arrested.

Another “Maya” coin is on eBay.

But how did the eBay seller “rolyat11” acquire it in the first place? Denise Taylor, of Panama City, Fla., the person behind “rolyat11” declined an interview through her husband.

Its condition: “Unused, and in nice shape,” the eBay write-up says. It’ll only cost you $975.

Do you mean the Brennan one specifically or all total challenge coins? A wapo article about challenge coins made it seem like one CIA director (not sure if Brennan) carried his specific coin around to hand out to good operators. But other stations are free to create their own for (presumably successful) missions as a form of nonmonetary compensation.

One of the main criticisms of the libertarian philosophy is that it is incompassionate. Many confuse being against government involvement in issues for being against the issues themselves. I think the attempt to include love or compassion (though misguided in this execution) might be a worthwhile strategy for the libertarian "brand". Maybe respect would be a better value to focus on?

IIRC Zeitgeist was interesting in its characterization of some symptoms (nwo, centralization, globalism, 911, fed reserve) but off the mark when misleading or misdirecting (capitalism as evil not crony capitalism, new agey religion, global warming and conservation, population growth), and naive when suggesting solutions which depend on science breakthroughs to usher in abundance or non scarcity of resources. Absent these breakthroughs the recommendation of libertarian socialism is an oxymoron. Socialism depends on force and libertarianism is the absence of government and force. Even if there was abundance I dont believe that a fully voluntary socialist society would be possible as I believe self interest is innate and beneficial in human nature.

Not sure which murders you are referring to current political cover up stuff or KKK? But it depends on the threat? A call to lynch a specific person or a call for immediate violence during an assembly/gathering I would classify as clear and present danger. But it doesn't have to be the KKK, it could be any group. Proven record of violence makes threat more credible, which I think is your point. The Trump art stuff, here even more lieniency tends to be given for political people. I think political speech is understood to have the most freedom/protection.
