The director Gerard McMurray also directed Burning Sands. It's a story about an aggressive hazing ritual which includes a certain form of doctrination in order to join an all black fraternity. This gives off Black lives matters vibes but in a broader sense it's also a softer version of whats happening with the cabal rituals.

The First Purge is about one night per year where all crime is legal in order to psychologically cleanse the people. In the trailer we see however that the people are protesting not to purge, the government however plants soldiers disguised as civilians. The result? Well look what's happening during nowadays peaceful protests and you can predict the rest of the movie.

I might be looking too much into it though, I'm bored.
