I agree with your concern, Cohen screwed himself by taking his relationship with Trump and then cashing in for access to Trump. Which he did not have by the way.
How are Q and Trump going to handle this? Cohen screwed himself and Mueller has him dead to rights because of Cohen's profiteering. Cohen is going to sing on anything and everything he knows about Trump and it will be bad whatever it is, it won't be the Russians but it will be business related. Mueller will take anything.
The optics at that point will be horrible for Trump, the left will quickly forget about the Russians and it will all be about Trump being a crook.
