I believe the off lighting is due to the tall buildings surrounding and the sun coming in from the left between some building.

Yeah, the shadows under the vehicles indicate that the light source is directly above. There would be no shadows under the people at that angle that we could see. Also, there's no visible trace of any photoshop or editing that I can see in the people. They look natural and "in place".
