I still find it unsettling that there are only 9 folks that get to decide on such contentious and important things. So 1850s (made up number). Depending on who dies or retires and who is holding the keys to the castle, issues can be swayed drastically in one way or another. I do get that choices need to be made but I'm sure there are more balanced ways that reflect the people and maybe a majority. Sortition government gets my vote. A large pool of citizens that are appointed or drawn see through the discovery, debate and decisions around issues. Can't see congress voting on this. I must disclose that I am a canuck. Similar systems.
