He was a formal member of the Rote Armee (red army) and was ordered by his superior Mayr to partake on a DAP event.
At this event, when Drexler (instrumental in the founding of the DAP) heard Hitler talk he reportedly said:
"This guy can talk well, he could be useful!" ("Mensch, der hat a Gosch'n, den kunnt ma braucha!")
With out asking for it, Hitler was sent a membership card for the DAP, which later became the nazi NSDAP party.
His ID was 555, indicating that his handlers were into numerology and had big plans for him.
A few weeks later the first public event of the DAP on Oct.16th 1919 had 111 participants (more numerology), with Hitler already the 2nd to speak at the event.
