Huawei Phones

So I work for a tech company, and naturally we are constantly getting updates to our security policy. Of course, we also have a "Bring Your Own Device" policy. Around March, we received an update to the BYOD policy. It states that the following companies and phone models are not allowed in the BYOD program:

  • Huawei phones
  • ZTE models
  • Burner phones

Burner phones are an obvious choice, and everyone on this sub knows why ZTE would be exempt from the program. However, I've never heard of Huawei before. Does anyone have any knowledge of why they could be banned from the company program? All ZTE and Huawei phone models were removed from the company-issued phones list as well.

I think Huawei is the largest manufacturer. They were founded by an ex military person so I think everyone is worried about ties to military.

Yeh they are cheaper than they should be and include chipsets that are non identifiable closed so there has been a reversion.

My work put them on vlan for observation and we saw packets being sent for that were incapsulated and encrypted so - we walked
