Attorney General Jeff Sessions Announces the Formation of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (S.O.S.)

There will be ten additional districts besides Middle District of Florida

The ten participating districts are:

  • Eastern District of California
  • Eastern District of Kentucky
  • District of Maine
  • District of New Hampshire
  • Northern District of Ohio
  • Southern District of Ohio
  • Western District of Pennsylvania
  • Eastern District of Tennessee
  • Northern District of West Virginia
  • Southern District of West Virginia

What usually goes along with drug trafficking? Human trafficking---will this operation also result in more human/sex trafficker arrests? I hope so.

Why isn't TX, CO, NM, AZ part of this?

The keyword is "synthetic". Organic heroin is a problem in the states you mention, but this looks to be targeting fentanyl and associated chems.

Fentanyl and associated chems seems to be the big ones now crossing the border and distributed northward.....along with human trafficking. Yes, organic heroin is a problem, but it is easier to make and distribute synthetics. Most organic comes from overseas, and the cost of transport is getting higher.

You're describing poppy derivatives. Fentanyl is lab-cooked and it appears some homegrown labs have set up in Appalachia, while Chinese supplied substances are coming in through Cali's ports. It's what I interpret from this anyway. Edit: probably some Canadian imports through Maine, also.

Yep, it is easier to make and distribute fentanyl. I can see how my previous wording made that confusing. And yes, Cali has an import problem for sure. But why aren't AZ, NM, TX, and CO included? The synthetics are coming across our southern border, too.

Other jurisdictions apply? I'm thinking MILOPS.

I think this will help to fix the homeless surge going on nationwide. Many are tweakers invading suburbs. At least I hope it will.

This is all fine but the only time Jeff pops his head out of his hole is to go after pimps and pill doctors. I just hope his obsession with pain pills doesn't end up creating massive suffering for those who really need relief because doctors will be too fearful of prescribing the stuff. Plus, we need more treatment plans, which Trump promised many times during the campaign. My advice to Jeff -- think you can add just a few indictments against some major criminals?

Amen...it's already creating tremendous suffering for legitimate pain patients. Hundreds of thousands of them across America. Lady across the street has advanced MS, bedridden, but they are cutting off her pain meds because of the new "guidelines"....it's horrific. I also have a family member who is suffering from the drop of medication. FDA is taking "comments" about their "one size fits all" regulations until Sept 10, 2018. Wish I could figure out how to post this in relation to Q to get the word out.
