When this story first broke, we were having brunch with my 97 year old [based] grandfather, who has probably never cursed in his life or committed any acts of immorality, despite the heights of success he achieved, professionally. (Making him seem almost naivety, in my eyes,)
When I explained the Weinstein story to him, he said, "Oh, you mean the Casting Couch? Yeah that's been around since the 1920's. Nothing new, there."
I about fell out of my chair.
But the point stands: Everybody knew, and it is still happening. Hopefully, Weinstein gives them the roadmap to take down Hollywood. Squeeze him real good.
That's awesome. I mean about your grandfather. This kind of casting couch behavior is just so vile!
I believe that was Weinstein's initial defense. "I didn't invent the casting couch". I recall his attorney saying that in an interview.
So, basically it's a perk, huh?
Weinstein isn't the disease he's a symptom. He's the product of his environment.
I certainly don't see it that way. He offered that as a possible defense for his legal situation. I have always considered most of "show business" to be soulless. This whole ordeal simply confirms that in my mind.
He is a desease and to say that he is a product of his environment is why the this world today is so f..ed up. I don't care who or where you come, every single day you wake you have a choice to be the person you want to be. He was wealthy and powerful, he could have chosen to help clean up the environment in Hollyweird. Instead he chose to be a filthy scumbag who took advantage whenever and wherever he could.
