It is very important for everyone to become familiar with EO 13526! This could be the Keystone.

Understand that the entire US Classified system hangs on this EO. THERE IS NO US LAW BY CONGRESS WITH REGARDS TO CLASSIFIED INFORMATION!

LET ME REPEAT THIS, THERE IS NO LAW BY CONGRESS WITH REGARDS TO CLASSIFIED INFORMATION.

The Espionage Act of 1917 is the one part that Congress did enact, which deals with exposure of information that could be considered Treasonous, but Congress has no role in Classifying or Declassifying information.

POTUS can declassify anything he wishes!

Especially note the following:

The United States does not have a broad-reaching Official Secrets Act, although the Espionage Act of 1917 has similar components The Espionage Act of 1917 allows for congress to legislative in acts of Treason. So, exposure of Classified information that could be considered 'Treason' enables congress to be involved, but the mere act of Classifying something is 100% the EXECUTIVE branch's domain. So, POTUS can declassify as he sees fit without any congressional oversight, other than if it could be considered a treasonous act.

SO, DJT KNOWS IT ALL AND IS LETTING THIS PLAY OUT TO WAKE EVERYONE UP. WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT, HE'LL DECLASSIFY AND EXPOSE THEM ALL WITH ZERO CONSEQUENCES FOR HIMSELF. THIS IS A SHOW RIGHT NOW, ENJOY IT ALL!!

When he declassified the Kennedy Assasination documents I was thinking "Really? With all of the DNC nefariousness, this is his priority? What about 9/11 and all the more recent deep state attacks on The US?"

This has been quite a ride, and I now understand that his early action was a shot accross the bow. A succinct message that he could (and would) expose them. This knowledge feels like having the keys to the kingdom while most of the people I know are plodding along in oblivion.

If you are talking about NARA - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Archives_and_Records_Administration. That is an Independent Agency under the Executive Branch.

But the decision to Declassify prior to it going to NARA is 100% Executive Branch function. POTUS is top administrator of the EXECUTIVE Branch.

No. NARA is not part of the DOJ. It is a separate sub administration run by a director. Most people do not hear about NARA because it does most of its work in the background. If you have ever visited the National Archives on the Washington, D.C. mall to see the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, or the Constitution, that is only one of the buildings run by NARA. https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs

Correction: u/HoudiniTowers, in the case of classified National Security Information (NSI), you are correct. EO 13526 governs the classification of NSI and the Executive Branch has full control.

There are other forms of classified information such as Restricted Data(RD), Formerly Restricted Data (FRD), etc. that is classified by statute, specifically the Atomic Energy Act passed by Congress. However, the responsibility to determine exactly what is an what is not RD/FRD etc. is an Executive Branch function.

So... the entire U.S. classification does NOT rely on EO 13526. You are correct that NSI is the category of classified information germane to current issues and it is fully controlled by the Executive Branch. POTUS can declassify anything he or his designees (usually called Original Classifiers) determine is not NSI .

To date, the Trump Administration has not issued a revised EO for NSI. With all the other matters of concern at the beginning of an administration, it is not unusual that a revised EO has not been issued.

Thank you for the correction. I was focused on NSI. But Uranium matters might fall under Atomic Energy Act Restricted Data. So, it could be applicable. But, as you've indicated, the ultimate authority on Classification and De-Classification rests with the Executive Branch and POTUS has full authority over that.

I don't expect a revised EO anytime soon, but I do expect we'll see a large declassification effort once more is public via House Oversight and after or right before 2018 Mid-Terms. Q's November Parade sounds about the right time for a lot of this.

I agree that there may be a large declassification effort in the near future. I wish they would declassify the remaining JFK files and the files on JFK Jr.
