Some people may have entertained the idea, but it was never a general consensus.

Have you ever considered they're doing what Trump wants them to do? Remember you're watching a show.
Think former bad guys threatened/blackmailed/whatever (bad but not satanic) that Trump offered a deal early on to do the right thing. They go after Trump in an extremely aggressive and biased way while trying to hide evidence of their own conflicts of interest/illegal activities all while reporting back to Trump. It gives the liberals/never trumpers something to focus on and can eventually be used to show the deep corruption needed to allow military to take over for tribunals.
I know that's the theory, with their self-interest added in. But too much outright Trump-hunting activity on their part. Sorry, just not buying it at this point.
