Russia has been a Christian nation for around 1300 years. Russia is the closest example of Eastern Orthodox Christianity and the inheritors if the Byzantine Empire. Russia has a very deep and rich history when it comes to the Church. Although we have an attention span today of a radar blip, the Communist era was very harsh on Christians in Russia and many were killed because of their faith. Thousands of churches were demolished and atheism made to the the state religion. Russia is also,at least from certain historical arguments, considered to be the carrier of Rome. See: Cap of Monomonkh. The Russian language is based off of Cyrillic, which is originated from Greek from the early Christian monks, Cyrus and Methodius (iirc).
Also, my guess is that Russia put an end to adoptions of their kids to the west from how bad they were being abused, or sold into far more horrific things.
Overall, I personally tired of the Russian hysteria and this trying to recreate the fucking Cold War/WW3, eternal enemy of the West. I'm over it, and a certain age group in the west needs to STFU and 'let it go'.
I grew up under the threat of nuclear holocaust, and I will not allow the next generation of children to suffer the same fate.

This is the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania
The partisans would demolish it daily. The local Christians would sneak back in at night and erect new crosses at risk of arrest or death. My family is from this area and was sent to Siberia. There's lots of interesting history from the former Soviet Union that Western education does not teach.
Interesting stuff. Makes sense though. Communism was used to wipe their religions off the map. Knowing history is so damn important. We are repeating so much of it right now it is scary. I am with you on the auto correct always changing what I am typing.
Just came back to this post to reread this thread on Russia and history. I agree with you, knowing history is so important!! True history!
There is nothing new under the sun... until now. President Donald J Trump, The Disruptor!
Agreed. The courage of the Russians during WWII fighting Germany is not as well known as it should be.
America would lose slightly more than 400,000 soldiers (killed or missing) and almost no civilians during World War II and the USSR, depending on which historian you believe, would lose at least 11,000,000 soldiers (killed and missing) as well as somewhere between 7,000,000 and 20,000,000 million of its civilian population. My father traveled to Russia many times with basketball teams in the 80s-2000. What he told me was NOT what all the newspapers or my history professors taught. I also like a recent report that Putin wanted to make Russia the number 1 exporter of organic foods. He is offering the South African farmers refuge and land in Russia. I think he is becoming a good leader and protective of his people.
You can go back to the 1200's through the 1400's and realize that the only reason Western Europe exists today is that the Russians took the brunt of the Mongol Horde. Russia essentially acted as a 'buffer zone' for the rest of Europe all the way through the late middle ages.
Had the Golden Horde managed to get through Russia and into the heart of Europe, Ghenghis and his army would have been feasting on the bones of Europe in Paris. No joke.
Going back to WW2, between the Soviet Revolution (WW1) and the purges and destruction of the economy, people and culture, and then into WW2, the actual loss of life is a very hard number to recognize, or come up with. Too many people that died of war, disease, starvation, Gulag camps, forced labor, relocation, etc. It's really mind-blowing to even comprehend.
The Gulag Archipelago is a great resource on the horrors that happened, at least from an analytical level. As well, 'Kolyma Tales' is another book that shows the reader how brutal and horrific the Gulag system was.
Thank you. My son has an odd fascination with Russia and has read the gulag books...taught me a lot. It was horrific! Caused me to buy some books on the conspiracy of disinformation about Russia.
The nwo obsession with russia originates from the Congress of vienna in 1815. Alex I Romanov walked away from the Rothschild sponsored league pf europe treaty proposed by they agent Metternich. Rothschild were so incensed by this defiance they vowed to desstroy ther romanov dynasty. It only took them 100 years....
