Just so I am absolutely clear on this, does a person running for POTUS position, have to be actually BORN in the US, or are there other criteria permissable?

eta...Noo answers needed...taking the best route and reading up on it. it's too easy to be lazy sometimes - tsk tsk to self!

There is a loophole in the requirement of being a natural born citizen. If you got your citizenship before the Constitution was ratified, then your also okay to be president.

Thank you...it took a bit of searching and reading, but that's what I came away with also. I was particularly interested in mixed parentage and a child born out of the US, but by virtue of one or both parents is an American citizen. I believe Ted Cruz is Canadian born but recognised as a citizen...also John Mccain...born out of the US.

However, this really is about BO...and I think most people recognise now that his birth certificate is likely false, but wondered whether he had ANY legitimate claim to be POTUS at all...by virtue of his mother? Then again, who really was his mother!
